Sustainable Energy Resources

An estimated 1.5 billion tons of municipal solid waste, green waste, sewage sludge, plastics, auto fluff, agricultural, forestry and other waste products, including some 300 million used tires, are generated in the United States each year. 320 million tons are readily available for use in the production of liquid and electric energy.

And when organic waste materials are utilized as fuel, the technology supports the natural environmental cycle of CO2 generation and recovery.

The technology is a generation beyond cellulosic ethanol—which is generally defined as the production of ethanol from purpose-grown plant materials—a process many authorities believe is still five-to-seven years away.

In addition, America has some 267 billion tons of recoverable coal reserves, more than a 300-year supply. Currently, the combustion of coal to create electricity represents the nation’s greatest source of industrial pollution. Millions of dollars are being spent to develop combined cycle coal gasification projects, but these technologies must still combust the resulting syngas to generate electricity. The BRI Process uses waste heat, rather than combustion, to create the high temperature steam that drives electrical turbines.

It is the only technology that can blend any of the resources listed above as feedstocks—and the only technology that can simultaneously co-produce renewable liquid energy, green power and other products from organic wastes.

It could provide the nation’s farmers and dairy industries with productive alternatives to the open-field burning of agricultural residues and the disposal of animal wastes.

It could extend by up to 80% the useful lives of existing landfills, while at the same time, lowering the cost of waste transport and disposal for municipalities, and it can convert landfill gas (i.e., methane, a precursor of greenhouse gases 21 times more powerful than CO2) into ethanol. Ultimately, it will enable the world to reclaim approximately 80% of the materials in existing landfills (the organic fraction) for use in the production of energy.

It holds promise to eliminate the need for public agencies to spread sewage sludge on agricultural lands, usually in some other county or state than their own.

Clearly, America has enough domestic resources to produce all of its liquid energy needs from non-petroleum sources.

  1. Took longer than expected to finish because I kept stopping to think, and a stop at explorecreativeconcepts did the same to me, content that provokes thought rather than just delivering information is in a different category and the team here is clearly working at that higher level rather than just cranking out posts.

  5. Felt mildly happier after reading, which sounds silly but is true, and a look at freshdealsworld extended that small mood lift, content that improves rather than degrades my mental state is content I want more of and the cumulative effect of reading sites that lift versus sites that drag is real over time.

  8. Without comparing too aggressively to other sources this one stands out for the right reasons, and a look at linkfunnel continued that distinctive quality, content that distinguishes itself through substance rather than style tricks is content with lasting differentiation and this site has clearly chosen substance based differentiation as its core editorial strategy.

  9. If you asked me to point to a recent positive sign for the open web this site would be near the top, and a stop at linkfuel reinforced that designation, the few sites that serve as evidence the web can still produce quality independent content are precious and this one has clearly become one for me.

  11. A particular pleasure to read this with a fresh coffee, and a look at linkfuel extended the pleasure across more pages, content that pairs well with quiet morning rituals is something I have come to value highly and this site has the kind of energy that fits naturally into a calm reading routine.

  18. Felt like I was reading something written by someone who actually thinks about the topic rather than reciting it, and a look at globalstyleoutlet reinforced that impression, the difference between recited content and considered content is huge and this site clearly belongs to the latter category which I appreciate as a careful reader looking for substance.

  24. Closed the tab and immediately reopened it ten minutes later because I wanted to reread a part, and a stop at uniquevaluezone drew the same return, content that pulls you back after closing it is doing something well beyond the average and worth marking as exceptional in my mental catalogue of reliable sites.

  25. Glad to find something on this topic that does not start with three paragraphs of throat clearing before getting to the point, and a stop at adthread also dives right in, respect for the readers time shows up in small editorial choices like this and they add up to a real difference quickly.

  34. A quiet piece that did not try to compete on volume, and a look at explorewhatspossible maintained that selective approach, sites that publish less but better are increasingly rare in an environment that rewards volume and this one has clearly chosen quality cadence over quantity which is a brave editorial decision in current conditions.

  42. Now wondering how the writers calibrated the level of detail so well, and a stop at rankcabin continued the same calibration, the right level of detail is one of the harder editorial calls in any piece and this site has clearly developed an instinct for it through what I assume is years of careful practice publicly.
